Silk is a fibre, satin is a weave

We sell two things that look alike and are not: mulberry silk, and satin. Satin is a weave and silk is a fibre, so a satin fabric can be silk and can just as easily be polyester. Most of this industry is comfortable letting that blur. We are not, so every product page here names its own fabric in the first two lines and again in the specifications.

What the range is made of

The silk half is 100 per cent mulberry: the pillowcases at 22 momme, the flat sheet and the men's lounge robe and boxer shorts at 19 momme, and the women's pyjama set at 16. Momme is a weight rather than a thread count, because silk thread is too fine to count usefully, and a higher number means a denser, longer wearing fabric.

The satin half is a satin weave in polyester, microfibre or viscose depending on the product. It glides in much the same way, it machine washes, it holds its colour, and it costs a fraction as much. It also breathes less, which some people notice in February. Both halves are worth owning and we would rather sell you the cheaper one honestly labelled than have you pay silk money for a satin weave.

What we will not claim

Silk reduces friction against hair and skin, and it moves moisture rather than trapping it. Those are properties of the fibre and they are as far as we take it. We do not publish effectiveness percentages, we do not claim a medical or dermatological outcome, and where a customer review exists we link to the review rather than paraphrase it. A star rating with no data behind it does not appear on this site at all.

Delivery, returns and the law

Delivery is UK wide, free on orders of £60 or more and otherwise Standard Delivery at £22, arriving in 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time. The price shown is the price charged.

You have 15 days to change your mind on an unused item in its original packaging. On a cancellation you pay only the direct cost of sending the goods back. That sits on top of the 14 day right to cancel that UK law already gives you on anything bought online, which we cannot limit. Separately, and regardless of anything in our terms, your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 apply to everything we sell.
